The government has begun inoculating priority categories 9 and 10, which total around 940,000 people. Most people we interviewed reported a smooth vaccination experience.
People were waiting in line to have their identity and body condition checked before getting a COVID jab on their arm.
Citizen 1:”(COVID-19 vaccines) are an unknown, so you can't help but worry. You just have to do your own homework.”
Citizen 2:”Only a minority of people get (side effects from the vaccine), so you can't keep stressing yourself out about that. If you can get a vaccine, get it.”
The CECC says around 940,000 people in Categories 9 and 10 have registered for a vaccine on the second round of registration.
Hsieh Tsang-tang, Superintendent, Taipei Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital:”We will be vaccinating 1,020 people in the 50-64 age group, Mondays through Saturdays, during this wave.”
Although the government does not allow mixed vaccine doses, cases have been reported all over Taiwan. In Taipei, a quarantine taxi driver that got AZ for his first dose in May managed to get a Moderna dose for his second on July 5. Afterward, he proudly told medical personnel that his first dose was AZ and bragged about his exploits to his colleagues, dubbing himself "Rulebreaker No. 1."
Cheng Li-chia, Chair, Taipei Motor Drivers Union:”He seemed avoiding to have any related discussion. He didn't show his first vaccination card until he'd gotten his (second) dose.”
Taipei Songshan Airport, meanwhile, has notified the members of the self-regulatory airport taxi drivers' committee that they must have received at least one vaccine dose in order to work at the airport starting Aug. 1. The order angered many drivers.
Lin Feng-tsang, Chair, Songshan Airport Taxi Drivers Self-regulatory Committee:”We are giving them a priority for vaccinations and allowing them to get vaccinated right there in the terminal, but some of them still won't get vaccinated.”
The Civil Aeronautics Administration says all airport drivers in Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung have already been vaccinated and Taipei can hopefully join them shortly.
