Taiwan recently experienced the coldest weather since the winter and experts say cold temperatures will continue throughout most of next week.
Visitors are super excited about the long-awaited snowfall on Yangmingshan; many are trying to ice-skate or busy building snowmen. Yangmingshan welcomed its first snowfall of the winter season as a cold front arrived in the country. Many enthusiastic visitors flocked to the mountains the night before anticipating the first snow in the early morning.

The parking lot on Yangmingshan's Datunshan is full; all cars are covered with snow. The temperature dropped drastically below zero in the early morning of the 8th, accumulating five centimeters of snow by 2 a.m. The police also launched traffic control when roads are starting to freeze. A traffic stop was set up at the intersection of Yangjin Highway and Bailaka Road. Vehicles without snow chains are refused entry into the Mountain. The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has recorded some lowest temperatures at ten weather stations in Taiwan since the winter season began, and the coldest is yet to come.
It will be very cold this whole week starting today till next Wednesday, with the exception of Sunday, when temperature is expected to go up just a bit. We would like to remind everyone to keep warm.
The lowest temperature recorded on the 8th was in Dongyin, part of the Matsu Islands with only 4 degrees Celsius. On the main island, the lowest temperature recorded was in Wugu with 4.7 degree Celsius. At Fugui Cape of New Taipei City, temperature came down to 5 degrees Celsius and in Hsinchu and Yangmei, temperature dropped to 6 degrees. The CWB announced that the cold wave will last for some time, and as the rain lessens, temperature will slightly rise on Jan. 10. However, another strong cold air mass from China will enter Taiwan on Jan. 11, sustaining the cold weather till Jan. 13.

停車場停滿遊客車輛，也都被白雪覆蓋，大屯山八號凌晨開始溫度跌破零度，到了兩點一度積雪五公分，警方也啟動了交通管制，因公路有結冰狀狀況，陽金公路與巴拉卡公路口，沒有掛雪鏈的車輛禁止進入山區。寒流發威，氣象局在平地十個測站也打破入冬以來最低溫紀錄，而最冷的時間點還沒有過
中央氣象局技正 王君賢表示：「整週來講，從今天開始，到下週三的清晨，其實除了禮拜天，稍稍回溫之外的話，整期的溫度都是偏低的。所以提醒大家，要注意做好保暖的工作。」
八號離島最低溫出現在東引，只有四度，本島平地最低溫出現在五股，清晨測得4.7度，新北市富貴角只有5度，新竹楊梅清晨都不到6度。氣象局持續發布低溫特報，週五入夜後雖然水氣轉少，但溫度仍低，將一直冷到週六，週日氣溫稍微回溫，但週一又會有大陸冷氣團甚至寒流等級的冷空氣報到，寒冷感受將直持續到下週三。
