Taichung Constructors Hanging Fake Signs to Drive Sales

A constructor in Taichung recently sought to drive sales by hanging signs for convenience stores and beverage shops on the ground floor shop to make the building appear to be very functional and have the potential to become commercial streets. But taking a closer look, these business names are either misspelled or the logos bear a resemblance to actual ones. Another constructor was even reported by residents and fined for hanging up an aesthetic medicine clinic signboard.

There are signs advertising the various businesses located on the ground floor of this building. There are signs for a convenience store, a beverage shop, and a mobile phone store. A closer look reveals the business names are either misspelled or the logos bear a resemblance to actual ones. Many people were confused.

It's a marketing tactic by the constructor.

I thought it was great that all these shops were opening, since it would make things more convenient. (And then?) And then I found out they were all lies.

Despite the signs, the spaces were not actually occupied. The signs were not real either. This building is located in Taichung's Nantun District near Ling Tung University. There are numerous construction projects in the area. Some are under construction, while others are completed. A nearby realtor says the market is very competitive, so constructors are trying to make their buildings appear to be very functional and show the locations have the potential to become commercial streets.

The Lingtung area's two biggest advantages are transportation convenience and job opportunities. They're trying to show that this area has a lot of commercial potential, and that stores can be profitable.

Realtors say Nantun District was considered to be the outskirts in the past, but then a precision machinery park was built, driving the real estate market. National Freeway No. 1 is also nearby. The current housing price is about NT$220,000 to NT$230,000 per ping, which is accessible for first-time buyers. Meanwhile, the constructor of a new building located in the same district hung up a sign for an aesthetic medicine clinic. The sign violated the Medical Care Act.

Non-medical institutions cannot use the names of medical institutions. Violations are fined NT$50,000 to NT$250,000.

The city's Health Bureau requested the constructor to take down the sign and fined it. The maximum fine is NT$250,000. Constructors are using various tactics to drive sales, so buyers are reminded to do their homework.
