Civic Groups Protest American Pork Imports|萊豬爭議 消保會至南服中心要求重啟談判

To voice concerns over the government's decision to allow imports of American pork containing Ractopamine, civic groups staged a protest outside the Executive Yuan's service center in Kaohsiung on Nov. 13, which later turned into a scuffle with the police.


We don't want your Ractopamine pork! Get out of here with your Ractopamine pork!

Civic groups irate over the Tsai administration's decision to allow Ractopamine-tainted American pork into Taiwan protest outside the Executive Yuan service center in Kaohsiung. The Consumer Protection Association in Taiwan and other groups delivered a letter of petition to the center on the 13th in the hopes the government can listen to public sentiment and show some concern for public health.

We are steadfastly opposed to the lifting of the import ban on pork containing Ractopamine. The Republicans lost the U.S. presidential election. Why can't Taiwan's (government) view itself as a global trade equal and reengage trade talks?

The center sent just one worker out to the protestors. The worker did not say anything and rushed back into the building after taking the letter. The center said it would deliver the letter to the central government.

We will try to pass on their sentiments to the Executive Yuan so that they can understand that we (the Southern Taiwan Joint Services Center) are not a policymaking agency.

Later on, there was an altercation between the social groups and police.

Why can't I get emotional? You police are the ones out of order here. Calm down. Calm down. How come you never show up when it's the Democratic Progressive Party acting up?
Representatives from the groups say it was regrettable the altercation shifted the focus of the protest but the government has to stop using public health as a political bargaining chip.



陳抗民眾：「萊豬不要來，萊豬滾回去。」

台灣消費者保護協會跟社會團體站在行政院南服中心門口大聲抗議，雖然中央已經定案美豬在明年一月進口，但消保會等團體還是抱著希望，13號來南服中心交請願書，希望政府重視人民的聲音，重啟談判確保民眾健康。

台灣消費者保護協會執行長 徐邦瀚表示：「我們是堅決反對萊豬進來。利用美國選舉的局勢轉變，我們(政府)為何不能夠，以國際貿易很對等的一個心態，來要求重新談判？」

南服中心只派一位代表出面，接過請願書後就快閃離開，沒多做回應。南服中心表示，會把訴求轉達給中央。

行政院南部聯合服務中心執行長 陳政聞表示：「我們就會把他們的訴求，試著轉達給院本部。讓他們來了解我們(南服)，並不是一個決策單位。」

但這次的陳抗也出現狀況，部分社會團體在活動結束後留在現場繼續抗議美豬，一度跟警察發生衝突。

陳抗民眾 vs. 警方：「我為什麼不能激動？你們(警察)在這邊來亂的。(冷靜、冷靜。) 民進黨在亂的時候，你們為什麼不出來？」

消保團體對其他團體跟警察衝突，造成陳抗主題差一點失焦感覺遺憾，但也表示後續會一直追蹤請願進度，呼籲政府別把人民健康當作政治談判籌碼。
