In order to lower the rate of accidents involving motorcycles, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications added four new tests in motorcycle road test. Many among the public said the increased difficulty in the tests has made finding the right place for practice more challenging. The Taipei City Department of Transportation said that the city will set up dedicated training areas for motorcycles that allows the public to practice for the road tests when accompanied by motorcycle license holders.

If you plan to change lane, you might signal first.

A motorcycle rider is practicing in a close course that mimics that of a real road test. The road course contains nine stages, and there are tires on both sides of the course as cushion. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications added four new tests in motorcycle road test in order to reduce accident rates. They include: two-stage left turn, lane change, perpendicular turn, and stop-and-go. The road test is significantly more challenging with the addition, and some members of the public said that makes it more difficult to find the right place to practice.

The most difficult part is to keep a balance in a straight line. But I think with more practice, I'll get the hang of it.

The Taipei City Department of Transportation said that, after taking into consideration the public's need for training areas, as well as their analysis on traffic accidents in the city, they found that most accident occur among younger riders. Among those aged between 18 and 25, 13 were killed in motorcycle accidents last year, and over 7,000 were injured. The figure accounts for close to 30 percent of the total accidents in Taipei.

The road test has become more difficult, and we have set up dedicated training areas for those who need more practice. The area is set up to mimic the actual road course at the tests.

The department has called on the public to take part in the government's official training camp for motorcycle riders. Those who complete the course and get their license will be entitled to a subsidy of NT$ 1000.
