Lagging in Polls, Su Says Polls are "Inaccurate, Not Credible"|民調輸侯友宜 蘇貞昌稱可信度不高

KMT's new Taipei city mayoral candidate Hou Yu-yih holds a 20-plus percentage lead on his opponent Su Tseng-chang, according to the latest opinion poll conducted by United Daily News. On Sept 19, Hou's campaign office released an anti-Shenao Power Plant video and asked Su to join the petition. Hou also said citizens naturally support candidates that "in his own words" do the right things. On the other hand, Su questioned the credibility of the opinion poll.

The Kuomintang's New Taipei City mayor candidate, Hou Yu-yih, released a video opposing the construction of the coal-fired Shenao Power Plant on the 19th. According to public opinion polls, 60.3 and 52.8 percent of New Taipei residents, respectively, said they oppose the plant in July and August. Hou said the central government needs to care about the opinion of the people, and invited his opponent, Su Tseng-chang, to join the fight against the plant.

Sixty percent of people oppose the construction of the coal-fired Shenao plant. Only 20 percent approve. City residents are forging the right path ahead, and I stand with them. I hope the former county magistrate can move in the right direction and stand with us in opposing the plant as well.

In a new print media poll of New Taipei residents, Hou garnered both a support and approval rating over 20 percentage points higher than Su. Asked to comment, Hou said polls are good for reference but in the end, what matters is that citizens support the candidate that does the right things and knows right from wrong. Su, meanwhile, said he polled much lower than his opponent because polls are inaccurate and not credible.

Do you believe (the poll results)? Is this the phenomenon you see happening? Do you agree (with the results)? If you don't, and you want (a candidate) who is willing to do work and change citizens' -- let's work harder, doubly as hard, to prove the inaccuracy (of polls).

Su also said the public hates negative elections and all he has done to date is announce his policies and get to know voters. He then said unlike Hou, he does not speak empty words, engage in negative campaigning, or spread fake news. Su also said city residents should use their votes to put a stop to this type of negative campaign tactic.
