With the year-end elections still more than 7 months away, all eyes are on the The Democratic Progressive Party to see if it will continue enforsing Ko Wen-je to run for the Taipei City mayor reelection. During an interview the other day, President Tsai Ing-wen commented Ko as "more and more like a politician", suggesting he is not the man he used to be. As to whether the DPP will nominate its own candidate to compete with Ko this time, President Tsai said nothing has been decided yet.

A vocational school student gives a nervous Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je a haircut. Ko was endorsed by the Democratic Progressive Party when he ran for mayor four years ago, but this may not be the case when he runs for re-election at the end of the year. During a recent interview, President Tsai Ing-wen voiced concerns about splitting the vote in Taipei. She also lamented that Ko has become more and more of a politician.

I'm simply just continuously evolving. (She said you've turned from an amateur into a politician.) Well, you wouldn't -- it'd be a greater challenge to turn from a politician back into an amateur. It's OK. I'm just evolving. You wouldn't expect me to not change and turn into fossil. People are always change.

Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu will soon assume the post of Presidential Office secretary-general and therefore play a key role in the elections for the DPP. Ko and Chen have battled over EasyCards and raising debt in the past, but Ko says Chen's new position will have no effect on the Taipei mayor election.

What issues were there? There weren't any. (Raising debt, and then the iPass problem.) No, there weren't any issues. We kept -- didn't we keep letting her have her way? (You previously criticized Kaohsiung for raising debt.) We weren't really criticizing, just telling the truth. (What kind of change will Secretary-General Chen Chu bring to the Taipei City election?) I don't know.

Asked if he would meet with Chen privately, Ko would only say that was a hypothetical question and Chen is not his point of contact in the party.
