Tens of thousands of people in Istanbul gathered to show support for Turkish opposition leader, Kemal Kilicdaroglu. In Istanbul's Maltepe square, a large crowd of protesters gathered on Sunday for the final stage of a long "justice" march that saw opposition leader Kilicdaroglu walk from Ankara to Istanbul.
Tens of thousands have joined Kilicdaroglu on his 425-km march, but in Istanbul, hundreds of thousands, waving Turkish flags and banners, gather to welcome him as he entered the city. The protest was launched after a deputy from his party was jailed on charges of military espionage. The deputy, Enis Berberoglu, is the first lawmaker from the secular party to be jailed in a government crackdown since last July's failed coup. Speaking to a rapturous crowd, Kilicdaroglu says the country is living under dictatorship. He pledges to keep challenging the crackdown launched by the authorities. Kilicdaroglu's protest march drew only modest support in its early days, but it has grown into the biggest protest yet against Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party.
