JAPANESE ROBBERY NETS NT$180 MILLION CASH|日福岡搶案 襲擊被害人劫3.8億日圓

A 3.5-mln-USD robbery was carried out in broad daylight in the busy downtown area of Fukuoka, Japan. The 29 year old victim was assaulted and robbed of 380 million yen in the parking lot after withdrawing the cash from the bank in order to buy gold. Three people were believed to be involved in the robbery, with two attacking the man and the third driving their getaway vehicle. Local police detained several suspects, including South Korean nationals. One of them was found trying to leave the country with a large sum of cash. A robbery occurred around 12:30 PM on Apr. 20 in the parking lot of Mizuho Bank's Fukuoka branch. The 29-year-old victim had just exited the bank with a briefcase containing over 380 million yen in cash, or about NT$180 million. He was attacked by two assailants with tear gas as he was about to put the briefcase in his car. The assailants fled with the briefcase. ==EYEWITNESS== I heard screaming, and we looked out. We saw a car approaching very fast, with a man chasing the car, banging on the doors, shouting that there was a robbery. ==EYEWITNESS== The light was red, but they were driving very fast and went through the light. A police car quickly followed. The police have used nearby surveillance cameras to track the white van driven by the assailants. The first 7 kilometers of their route has been identified, but the vehicle has not yet been found. The victim is a broker of precious metals based in Tokyo. He had an appointment with the bank to take out the cash for a handover to a client. He said he suspects the assailants had known about his plans in advance. The police have released details on the robbers' height and appearance. Four Korean tourists attempted to board a plane at Fukuoka Airport with 700 million yen in undeclared cash soon after the robbery. They were stopped by the police, but they denied involvement in the robbery. As the four tourists were very different in appearance with the robbers, the police have ruled out the possibility of their involvement in the crime. However, they have been arrested for violating customs laws and the source of the cash will be investigated.
