It was hard for us after so much time that we were waiting here, from one day to another they told us that everything had ended and the first news we heard was a great uncertainty, uncertainty about whether the program had ended, whether the law was retroactive, they were very tense days because we thought we would be staying.
The doctors are the first to arrive in the U.S. after the end of the program that each year allowed hundreds of doctors to leave their foreign mission stations for new lives in the States. While the Obama administration eliminated the program, it said it would process the paperwork of any doctor who had applied before the end of business, January 12, 2017.

Now, the difficult moment of leaving has arrived. After six months, we are going toward our goal which is to go to the United States and see how we can develop, how we can get ahead.
In December 2015, former President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro made a historic breakthrough agreement to cast aside decades of hostility that began soon after Cuba's 1959 revolution.
Those measures, however, may soon change as President Donald Trump vowed during his campaign to roll back Obama's executive actions, saying the U.S. should have demanded more concessions on human rights.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said a "full review" of America's foreign policy toward Cuba was underway. The health professionals did, however, express concern over the relatives and friends they were leaving behind.

We are very worried about that, with those who are left here and with those who are left over there in Venezuela and even those who are in Cuba and were going to come.-1
Dozens of visas have been granted since Obama ended the program which was originally begun by President George Bush in 2006.
