TAOYUAN AND NEW TAIPEI CITY DISPUTE AIRPORT MRT TICKET PRICES|機捷票價 引發新北.桃園市府隔空交火

Ticket prices of the Taoyuan International Airport MRT have sparked a battle between the Taoyuan City and New Taipei City Government. New Taipei City said the ticket prices are not fair to local commuters. However, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan said New Taipei City already agreed to the prices. Their attacks are just a smear campaign. Former Taoyuan International Airport MRT chairman Ho Nuan-hsuan said the central and local governments have all approved the prices. If local governments want price reductions, they have to pay for the subsidies. The New Taipei City has leveled some harsh criticisms against the Taoyuan City government for announcing the airport MRT ticket prices unilaterally, saying the prices are too high and unfair to New Taipei City commuters. Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan fought back, calling out New Taipei City for flip-flopping. ==CHENG WEN-TSAN, Taoyuan City Mayor== This is not how government officials should act. They are also members of the board and participated in the review process of ticket prices. The airport MRT offers the lowest prices in the world, but they still continue on with their smear campaign. This is not right. Cheng said New Taipei City representatives were present in ticket price review meetings and consented. In fact, prices were decided during the Ma administration, but now New Taipei City has just changed their mind. In response, New Taipei City Trans. Dept. We did communicate with the Taoyuan government in writing and said we hoped the prices can be the same as the Taipei MRT. If any agencies request for price reductions, they must allocate budget for subsidies. Taoyuan City government said they will release meeting records if necessary. On the other hand, New Taipei City said they will take it up with the MOTC and request for lower prices.
