Night runs have been widely popular in Taiwan recently. However, just a reminder, it's important to evaluation your own health before signing up. A man from Hsinchu joined the Miaoli County night run on Saturday, but he collapsed just 200 meters before the finishing line. He was then rushed to the hospital but doctors were unable to save him.
As runners passed the finishing line, a man looked like he was feeling ill. He stopped to rest and then struggled to continue. He was heard yelling "I can't do it" before he collapsed. On Saturday night, Mr. Lin joined the Miaoli County night run with his colleagues. They were registered for the 9 kilometer marathon. He was in good health and exercised regularly. The accident was a shock to his family and friends.

The organizer said the temperature was 34°C at the time. A pit stop was set up every 3 kilometers along the way. Runners were also insured. 選手跑到快到終點線前,每個人陸續通過,不過其中有一名男跑者,看起來快要撐不住,沒多久蹲下來休息,後來雖然勉強起來走動,不過腳步搖搖晃晃,隨後在終點線前,喊了一聲「我不行了」,就不支倒地。週六晚間,住在新竹的林姓男子,和同事參加苗栗的星光馬拉松,他們報名分組九公里的競賽,剛開始都好好的,家人也對平時有運動的林姓男子沒有多注意,沒有想到還是出意外。

主辦單位說,當天晚上氣溫34度,加上每三公里都有設置補給站,也都有保險,目前死因還要進一步相驗,不過醫師提醒,雖然晚間的氣溫,相對白天可能感覺低一點,不過高溫高濕的環境,還是不適合跑步。

醫師表示,除了個人體質耐受力不同,最近午後都還是有雨,地表濕熱散發出來之後,高溫高熱的環境,反而更不適合跑步,在長期暴露之下,也可能造成體熱失調,醫師建議,平時應該少量多次的補充水分,如果感覺身體不適,千萬不要硬撐跑完全程。
