Facebook pledges swifter actions on violent content. The world's largest social media platform will hire more people to screen posts by users. The decision came after repeated events in recent months of people live-streaming violent events. In many cases, the company only removed those posts after they began circulating widely online. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerburg said in a post on Wednesday that his team will speed up the handling of inappropriate content and better respond to messages calling for help, and in order to do so, he will expand Facebook's current team of 4,500 employees to more than 7,000. The bigger team will comb through millions of reports filed every week. Contents that will be censored include violent crimes, hate speech and the exploitation of children. Actions will also be taken to make reporting on problematic content easier for users. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to shorten the time needed to determine a post inappropriate. Facebook, which currently boasts 1.9 billion users worldwide, has been doing well financially. Its profits grew by 76% year on year in the first quarter of 2017 to US$ 3 billion.
