The cement sector is the third largest industrial source of pollution and can contribute to a variety of health problems and adverse environmental impacts. Therefore, parents of the Wun-Fu Elementary School are raising concerns about Southeast Cement Corporation's plant that is located only one kilometer away from the school. Wun-Fu elementary school recently held a meeting to talk with the concerned parents and students. Mainly because the Southeast Cement Corp. (SCC) was forced to shut down for two months by the Environmental Protection Administration, and it's currently applying for the resumption of work. ==CHIEN CHIH-YUAN, Wun-Fu Elementary School Director Of Student Affairs== Southeast Cement Crop. has been here for over 50 years, we really hope that, regardless of the pollution, at least you (SCC) need to fulfill the social responsibility. Parents and teachers expressed outrage during the meeting and asked the SCC to stop the pollution after the plant resume production. ==ATTENDEE== If we still find pollution in the future, what are you going to do? Will you step down? Shut down the plant or relocate? ==WU YAN-HUI, SCC Factory Manager== I'm already eligible for retirement, so it's not about stepping down or shutting down the plant. The Chief actually explained everything, you might not understand, but I do, I'm already trembling. Since we already raised our concerns, I believe the government is entitled to do something and improve the current condition. SCC plans to resume production in about 3 months, meanwhile, local residents urged the administration to do something and give the children of Wun-Fu Elementary School a chance to breathe clean air.
