Taichung Power Plant Aims to Reduce Coal Use by 40% in 2020|明年1月下旬 中火電廠生煤量再砍4成

By January 26 next year, we will get a new operating permit (for the power plant). And the annual use of coal will need to be less than 11.04 million tons.
 

The Taichung City environmental protection bureau said that, according to the regulations governing the use of coal in Taichung City, the period for the Taichung Power Plant to reduce its use of coal will come to an end by January 26, 2020. And the operating permit for all 10 units in the power plant will expire by the end of this year. The bureau plans to extend the permits as well as to ask the power plant to reduce its coal consumption. The state-owned Taiwan Power Company said that the power plant is already set to reduce its annual coal consumption from 21 million tons to 12.6 million tons, and that a further reduction to 11.04 million tons will lead to a reduction in electricity output by 3.6 billion kilowatt-hours, which is the equivalent of the output of one power unit. The company said this could impact the electricity supply around Taiwan.
It will affect the total electricity output by estimated 3.6 billion kilowatt-hours. This is of course affect the overall power supply. This of course also affects the cost of electricity supply.
The reduction of coal use will require an increase in the use of natural gas. However, the No. 3 natural gas terminal is still under construction. CPC, the state-owned petroleum company, said that they will further evaluate the situation and will hold discussions with Taipower officials.
 

The ratio of natural gas (in the total consumption) is relatively high. Taipower and CPC are currently in the process of evaluate and assess the situation.
 

Taipower said the Central Taiwan Science Park Administration and the Taichung Export Processing Zone are using significantly more electricity each year, and that if the supply of coal and natural gas is inadequate next year, it could affect the supply of electricity and its price next year.
