Kaohsiung City Mayor-elect Han Kuo-yu is intent on improving the city's tourism industry. His first public appearance after the election was at a travel fair, where he helped to market the city. He stressed that he would use elements including religion and medicine to strengthen tourism after he takes office. Also, he would use locally grown ingredients to hold an international culinary competition in Kaohsiung.
A special Ferris wheel-themed meal normally priced at NT$ 990 is being offered at a 73 percent discount, or NT$ 249, at this travel fair. The vendor is offering the discount in celebration of Kaohsiung City Mayor-elect Han Kuo-yu's win.
The Ferris wheel integrates perfectly into Mayor Han's tourism policies. Our company is focused on the independent tourism market and we are really looking forward to seeing what Mayor Han does to stimulate the independent tourism market after he enters office.
The four-day Kaohsiung Winter International Travel Fair opened on the 30th. Han, who pledged to improve the local tourism industry during his campaign, made his first public appearance since the election at the fair.
We will continue to use different tourism elements to promote Kaohsiung. I hope Kaohsiung can hold a culinary exhibition, attracting competitors from China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Japan. Our exhibition would feature only locally grown produce.
On the 29th, Premier William Lai said the central government would do everything it can to help send tourists to Kaohsiung. Han expressed his appreciation and said he hopes politics won't be a stumbling block in the development of Kaohsiung's tourism industry.
