Only 10 Percent Earn Over NT$61,000/month|月薪6.1萬躋進薪資排名前10% 上班族驚!

The government's statistics office launched a system last year where people can check how their salaries rank in Taiwan. Since then, users have discovered that monthly salaries above NT$61,000 are in the top 10 percent in the nation.

The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics' "Earnings Exploration and Information System" allows users to input their monthly salaries, and then check where their salaries rank. The system was launched last year. Users recently discovered that any salary above NT$61,000 was put in the 90th percentile. In other words, all people who earn NT$61,000 or more a month are ranked in the top 10 percent.

It seems that most salaries are around NT$30,000.

I can probably still save one-third of my salary after normal expenses..

Government statistics show the average monthly salary excluding bonuses and overtime pay is NT$37,000. This is already higher that what 60 percent of office workers earn. If bonuses and overtime pay are included, the total average monthly salary of NT$40,600 is higher than what 50 percent of office workers earn. Scholars say the data included in the system are not only from ordinary office workers, but also from full-time and part-time locals and foreigners. As such, the salary gaps are relatively large.

The DGBAS probably did this because sometimes salaries go unreported. For example, people who work in China have really high salaries, but these earnings may not be included in Taiwan. Taiwan has many foreign workers, and all several hundred thousand of them report the basic wage. So, you will see that people with high salaries are not reporting them, while there are many people reporting low salaries. This may affect our salary statistics. Some diversified incomes are not included, which means the real salary situation is not accurately reflected.

Many people say it is very difficult for families to have children in a situation where commodity prices keep going up and they have to pay mortgages. The government statistics office says some of the data are incomplete because companies fill in the information provided in the system and include salaries from part-time and other types of work.
