On Feb. 7, the Beigang District Taiwan Lantern Festival officially lighted up its lanterns. In front of the Beigang Chaotian Temple the area was full of crowds. The 300-year-old temple has been decorated with LED lights to create its form as a large lantern. Along the Shuidaotou Park area there is a lantern with fish and dragons like those that in Beigang's early years were floated on water and are now shown on the lotus ponds in the park.
==LI CHIN-YUNG Yunlin County Magistrate (106.2.7.)==
These decorative lanterns are really beautiful, especially placed there in the ponds, you get the light reflected on the water, this is a really enjoyable visual experience.
On Beigang's Guangguan Bridge, local artists have created a hundred birds and phoenix lantern, symbolically flying towards the temple. Standing on the bridge and looking towards Zhongshan Road, you can see the whole street is crowded. The most unique feature is that the traditional electric lanterns, floats and other lanterns have been installed in lanes and alleys so people can experience the beauty of the authentic original lantern light.

There are really a lot of people, I'm very happy, the planners did a good job of bringing this place alive.
Yunlin County magistrate Lee Chin-yung said that Beigang is the original home of Taiwan lanterns, and so after 27 years, the Yunlin County government finally won the honor of holding this year's Taiwan Lantern Festival. The four areas of lanterns all have different characteristics, and visitors are welcome to try local snacks as they walk among the lanterns.
