Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was criticized during the 2016 US election for allowing fake news to spread and disseminate on his website. Some critics even claimed that facebook helped in getting Donald Trump elected on November 8. In response, Zuckerberg said Facebook will enhance its AI intelligence capabilities in filtering hate speech and false information while protecting user privacy at the same time.
On November 19, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was invited to speak at the 2016 APEC Summit. Facebook was criticized for allowing fake news to spread on its site, which was claimed by some critics to influence the 2016 US election outcome. Although Zuckerberg rejected the notion, he promised to make reporting easier and intensify third party verification on Facebook. During his speech, he said Facebook will enhance its AI intelligence capabilities to stop the spread of hate, violence and misinformation.

We also need to do our part to stop the spread of hate and violence and misinformation. We can build artificial intelligence to fight terrorism but we also need to make sure that we protect people's privacy.
Zuckerberg said connectivity among countries is facing a tremendous challenge. US President-elect Donald Trump's protectionist view on foreign policy and UK's Brexit vote to leave the European Union provoke reflection on globalization in developing countries.

Even as globalization might grow the overall pie of prosperity, it also creates inequality. You know, it helps some people and it hurts others. We can disconnect, risk less prosperity, and hope jobs we've lost come back. Or we can connect more, try to do more great things, try to work on even greater prosperity and then work to aggressively share that prosperity with everyone.
Zuckerberg sang the praises of increased connectivity and globalization. Realizing the inherent difficulties, he hopes that political leaders can put greater effort into investing in eradicating inequality.
