China Mobile Offers Plan Waiving Roaming Fees in Taiwan|中國電信業促銷 門號來台取消"漫遊"

China Mobile, a leading telecom in China, launched a promotional plan that scraps international roaming fees in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The lowest monthly fee is RMB 288, or approximately NT$1,440. Those who frequently come to Taiwan for work can save approximately NT$500 during a six-day trip.


People with Chinese mobile phones incur international roaming fees when using their phones in Taiwan to make calls or go online. Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan often purchase prepaid SIM cards with unlimited data access at airports to avoid paying these fees. They can also make phone calls.

All the travel advice advises purchasing a mobile phone SIM card at the airport. It costs NT$700 for 15 days, and I think you can only make NT$100 worth of phone calls.

Recently, leading Chinese telecom China Mobile launched a promotional plan that scraps international roaming fees in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The lowest monthly fee is RMB 288, or approximately NT$1,440. The savings are substantial for Chinese people who frequently come to Taiwan for work or Chinese students studying in Taiwan.

If I come to Taiwan for six days, I can save a total of RMB 100 in fees compared to domestically.

Taiwan's three main telecoms say they are taking a wait and see approach. They add they also have preferential plans that are worthwhile for people who go to China for work or travel.

Taiwan Mobile says Taiwan's telecom service charges are based on National Communications Commission regulations, and there are control measures in place for all promotional packages. It adds it will prudently assess whether to waive international roaming fees for China.
