The U.S. Federal Reserve raised interest rates by half a percentage point on Dec. 14 and projected at least an additional 75 basis points of increases in borrowing costs by the end of 2023 as well as a rise in unemployment and a near-stalling of economic growth.
Stock markets in Japan and South Korea opened down today after the U.S. Federal Reserve raised interest rates. Japan's Nikkei opened 0.53 percent lower, down from a two-week high at close the previous day. In South Korea, the benchmark KOSPI opened down 0.59 percent.
