Following TSMC, Innolux Also Encourages Employee Vacations
Taiwan's semiconductor sector has been under a lot of pressure with concerns over an economic slowdown and the political risk attached to Taiwan's relationship with China. Recently, TSMC as well as Innolux have both encouraged their employees to take paid leave after working hard during the pandemic.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon recently pointed out that geopolitical uncertainties were among the biggest concerns facing the global economy. Tensions in the Taiwan Strait and talks of the semiconductor industry cutting its reliance on Taiwan have sparked concerns. Industry veterans, including Powerchip Chairperson Frank Huang, believe that Taiwan's semiconductor status is difficult to unseat! National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin was at the Legislative Yuan for inquiry and responded to the issue.
Kung Ming-hsin, NDC Minister: “If you get rid of Taiwan, the whole world stops working. For us, strengthening our capabilities is the most important thing. So we won't worry about this de-Taiwanization.”
The overall global economy is full of crises. Not only has TSMC begun encouraging their employees to take paid leave, but also Innolux, one of the panel manufacturing leaders, has launched a plan to encourage vacations. Paul Peng, the chairperson of panel leader AUO, said the current consumer market is falling off a cliff. This is one of the most severe recessions. Everyone is concerned about where Taiwan's economy is headed.
Kung Ming-hsin, CDC Minister: “The destocking of inventory for some in the electronics industry will probably last until the first or even the second quarter of next year. ”
Chiu Yi-ying, Legislator (DPP): “The economy won't get better? ”
Kung Ming-hsin, CDC Minister: “It will be challenging.”
In addition to increasing the budget for next, Kung believes that with the U.S.-China technology war, it's an opportunity to bring employees and production back to Taiwan and use the crisis to our advantage. Taiwan's four domestic industrial and commercial associations recently stated that they will visit China after the closing of the CCP's 20th National Congress. Kung expressed his respect and believed that the trip could be beneficial for Taiwanese business owners.
