Yesterday afternoon, Renho Murata, Taiwanese-Japanese journalist and politician, who is the leader of the Democratic Party of Japan announced that she will step down from her position as party Chair.
==RENHO MURATA former Chair, Democratic Party of Japan==
I kept thinking about this after I was elected as Chair, whether we truly reflected the voice of the people, and kept reflecting on this and I found that I was lacking overall in many aspects, so after reflection and so that the Democratic Party can change more quickly to become more responsive to the electorate, so I should resign from my position as party chair.
Renho emphasised that the party's losses in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election earlier this month were the main catalyst for her decision, but not the only factor. She felt that her leadership qualities were not sufficient to allow the party to progress and the electorate did not have sufficient trust in the party. She hoped that after her resignation the party would re-organise and new personnel would emerge from the party.
