INTEGRATION OF AIR DEFENSE COMMAND SIGNALS NEW STRATEGY|因應中共戰略轉型 國軍軍事整併

Responding to frequent military activity by China's PLA, the ROC Ministry of National Defense has developed a new counter-strategy, emphasizing multi-levels of deterrence. Air defense missile command will be incorporated into the Air Force's air defense artillery command system, so that air defense operations are more effectively managed. For the first time, the MND publicly confirmed that Patriot missiles have been stationed in eastern regions to strengthen east coast defense. Air Force Commander Shen Yi-ming officially announced that from Mar. 1, air defense missile command would be incorporated into the Air Force's air defense artillery command system. The Ministry of National Defense also confirmed for the first time, that Patriot missiles are stationed in the Hualien and Taitung region. Prof. Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Tamkang University== China now presents a bigger threat to our eastern marine regions and it's unknown whether the US concept of overall air defense architecture for the entire Western Pacific island chain will now change. == SHIH HSIAO-WEI military analyst== Threats to the ROC could come directly from the Philippines Sea and in such a situation our eastern coast does not have a good site for construction of an air defense missile system, so until there is construction of a suitable missile site for anti-tactical ballistic missiles, for the time being, Patriot missiles are being stationed there. The air defense command center will come under the Air Force and the new Air Defense Missile Command, which is a transformation of the former anti-PLA response strategy unit. Both will be under the command of the President. The ROC's previous long-term military strategy of effective defensive deterrence has been adjusted to multi-layer deterrence. Before Mar. 13, the MND will offer a four year general defense review to the Legislative Yuan. Analysts feel that the direction of defense strategy has not changed, but the details of military deployment will be fine-tuned for response.
