ITALIAN TAXI DRIVERS PROTEST AGAINST RIDE-SHARING APPS|義國計程車駕駛反APP叫車 串聯示威

Meanwhile across Italy, taxi drivers took to the streets in protest against Uber-like ride-sharing apps. On Feburty 21st or the sixth consecutive day of their protest, traffic around major Italian airports and train stations almost ground to a halt due to roadblocks created by angry taxi drivers. Thousands of taxi drivers marched through parliament building and the headquarter of the ruling Democratic Party. Angry drivers demand the government to act on chauffeured limousines via Uber app. Drivers had clashed with police during the protest. ==TAXI DRIVER== They want to take away the jobs that we've been doing for 35 years and give it to the multinationals. How will I feed my child? I've paid contributions for 33 years but they won't even give me a pension. Taxi drivers continue their protests in major cities for the sixth day and crippled traffic. Many passengers were delayed on their ways to airports and stations. In Italy, cab drivers have to obtain legal operation licenses, follow rigid regulations and pay huge fees; the Uber app hailing service has done none of these and the government plans to ease Uber into regulated taxi industry. In past years, the Italian government planned to loosen the cab industry but was forbidden by courts. Several amendments were postponed by ruling administrations. In the streets of Rome, there is another protest launched by street stall holders, they are against a European directive that plans to liberalize the street vendor market.
