Meanwhile, the 2017 "Cycling for a Free Tibet" campaign was launched on Feb. 1. Led by the man who started the campaign, Tashi Tsering, a group of cyclists, including New Power Party legislator Freddy Lim, biked around Taipei and visited important landmarks such as the Liberty Square and the Legislative Yuan. Finally rallying at Taipei 101, the group handed out flyers and gave speeches to advocate for freedom and human rights in Tibet.
Braving chilly winds, the initiator of "Cycling for a Free Tibet" Tashi Tsering and NPP legislator Freddy Lim cycled with a group of activists who support freedom in Tibet. They gathered at the Liberty Square and tried to make what Tibet has faced, known to the world.
==TASHI TSERING Cycling for a Free Tibet initiator==
As a Tibetan who was born overseas and has never been to the country, I know people in Tibet live a hard life. Under oppression from the Chinese Communist Party, they have no freedom and human rights.
The meaning of cycle in English symbolizes the "cycling" of reincarnation, Tsering said, adding that he will keep promoting and striving for freedom and human rights in Tibet. The first round of the campaign coincided with Freddy Lim's birthday. Tsering gave his blessings and prepared for Freddy a khata, a traditional scarf in Tibetan Buddhism.
==FREDDY LIM New Power Party legislator==
I did not think of my birthday. On the way here, the blessings from the initiator came as a surprise to me because I take part in campaigns supporting Tibet every year.
Tibetans have long been under oppression from the CCP. Therefore, Freddy hopes exiled Tibetans are able to go back to Tibet with Dalai Lama in the future. Covenants Watch, a NGO that monitors the government's fulfillment of the obligations of human rights, also participated in this campaign.
==HUANG YI-BEE Covenants Watch Chief Executive Officer==
Upon facing the deterioration of democracy and human rights, we should stand up for Tibetans and ourselves. We must say no lack of democracy.
Starting from Feb. 1 to March 8, the campaign involves participants cycling every Wednesday. They set off at the Liberty Square to the Legislative Yuan and then back to Taipei 101, trying to bring more people to join efforts for Tibetans' human rights.
