151 DEPARTMENTS AND PROGRAMS HAVE ZERO ENROLLMENT|大專註冊率揭曉 151系科所都掛零

On Dec 29, the Ministry of Education released a report on First year university and college student's registration rates for the fall 2016 semester. As many as 151 higher education programs, especially doctoral programs, reported zero enrollment this fall. Moreover, 17 schools had a registration rate of below 60 percent for their undergraduate programs. Sr Exec Officer, MOE== For different types of programs, five-year junior college program had the highest registration rate of 90.54 percent. Next is two-year technical program's division of continuing education, which had a registration rate of 86.58 percent. Undergraduate program (day school), which had a registration rate of 85.94 percent, comes in third. Five-year junior college program had an average registration rate as high as 90.54 percent, while master program only had 80.44 percent. Among all higher education programs, 151 programs reported zero enrollment this fall. Most of them are doctoral programs. ==TAN YI-CHING Higher Edu. Dept. Sr Exec Officer, MOE== A student may be accepted by different programs at the same time. This is one of the reasons why some programs suffered zero enrollment. Another reason may be that some programs require minimum qualifications, and no applicants were qualified. In terms of undergraduate programs, public universities had a registration rate of over 90 percent. However, 17 universities, including Huafan University, Kao Yuan University, and Far East University, had a registration rate of below 60 percent. Nan Jeon University of Science and Technology had the lowest registration rate of 18.74 percent. ==CHANG CHIA-YU Tech. and Voc. Edu. Dept. Sr Exec Officer, MOE== It does not mean that these schools are not good enough. A lot of them performed above average. The problem of these schools lies in their accessibility and location. The MOE emphasized that a low registration rate does not necessarily mean that the school is performing poorly. However, if the school has an overall registration rate of below 60 percent for two consecutive years and has fewer than 3,000 students in total, then it will be put on the MOE's list for supervision. Currently, the MOE is supervising the operation of 10 schools across the nation.
