TSMC Fab Reports Are Election Manipulation?
Reports that TSMC will build a 1-nanometer fab at Hsinchu Science Park's Longtan campus have become a point of contention in the Taoyuan mayoral election. KMT candidate Simon Chang said the reports are an attempt to manipulate the election, while Premier Su Tseng-chang accompanied DPP candidate Cheng Yun-peng on an inspection of the campus on Nov. 3, which was a violation of administrative neutrality. Meanwhile, Su said Chang has no idea how efficient the administration is because he's not part of it.
Su Tseng-chang, Premier: “Perhaps Mr. Simon Chang is unaware of it all because he didn't participate in this great effort. He hasn't seen the government's courage and effectiveness during these past few years. Nearly the entire Longtan campus has been leased. The government will work hard to make companies want to invest in Taiwan and keep advanced manufacturing technologies in Taiwan.”
Su sang his own praises, saying he has approved seven science park construction projects and expansions and over NT$1.8 trillion has been invested in three major projects since he took office. He said the government will continue working hard to keep these advanced manufacturing technologies in Taiwan because they are Taiwan's national strength and everyone's expectation.
