US Releases National Security Strategy 美公布國家安全戰略 定調中國為最大挑戰

The White House recently released its National Security Strategy. It identified China as "America's most consequential geopolitical challenge" and stated that the U.S. will not allow Russia to achieve its objectives through using nuclear weapons or Iran to expand militarily. U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the next decade will be decisive in the competition with China. 

Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor: “The PRC's assertiveness at home and abroad is advancing an illiberal vision across economic, political, security, and technological realms in competition with the west. It is the only competitor with both the intent to reshape the international order and the growing capacity to do it.”

Douglas Hsu, Director General, Dept. of N. American Affairs, MOFA: “In the face of China's military expansion and provocations, our government will continue to strengthen our self-defense capabilities. We will staunchly resist authoritarian expansion and aggression. We will also further deepen the close security partnership between Taiwan and the U.S. to jointly maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.”

The National Security Strategy also mentioned Taiwan in reiterating the U.S.' abiding interest in maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and opposition to any unilateral changes to the status quo from either side. The report also said the U.S. does not support Taiwan independence and will uphold its commitments under the Taiwan Relations Act to support Taiwan's self-defense and maintain its capacity to resist any resort to force or coercion against Taiwan.

美國白宮國家安全顧問蘇利文表示：「中國國內外的武斷行徑，在經濟、政治、安全和科技領域，與西方國家的競爭上不斷推進其中國的不自由願景，中國是唯一有意圖且越來越有能力，重新建造國際秩序的美國競爭對手。」

外交部北美司司長徐佑典表示：「面對中國軍力擴張跟挑釁的行徑，我們政府也將持續強化自我防衛的能力，堅定對抗威權主義的擴張跟侵略，我們也會進一步深化台美緊密的安全夥伴關係，共同維護台海和平穩定。」

這份國家安全文件也談及台灣，內容重申美方維護台海和平穩定，反對任何一方片面改變現狀，美國不支持台灣獨立，持續遵循台灣關係法承諾台灣自我防衛，以抵抗武力。
