Taichung has seen two shootings in a span of three days, with one person killed and another injured. On July 26, the Taichung City Police Department announced a one-week operation to seize firearms.
The suspect is escorted back to the police station. During the early hours of July 26, a shooting occurred at a carwash in Taichung's Dali District. The main suspect, a 31-year-old man surnamed Chiu, opened fire, injuring the left thigh of a man surnamed Wei. He then fled by car to Pingtung. He thought he was in the clear, and returned to Taichung that same day to worship at a temple. The police were following him and arrested him. They seized a modified handgun.
Li Chien-hsing, Deputy Chief, Wufeng Precinct, Taichung City PD: “The task force identified the vehicle that the suspect surnamed Chiu used to flee, and immediately applied to the district prosecutors office for an arrest warrant. The police found a modified Beretta handgun on him.”

The police will step up roadside inspections and carry out inspections of certain locations.
Tsai Tsan-po, Commissioner, Police Department, Taichung City: “We'll confiscate illegal firearms, investigate locations that modify firearms, and hunt down perpetrators of shooting incidents.”
The police said they have cracked two drug cases, and arrested 16 wanted criminals and 14 people that committed public endangerment.
Meanwhile, Chiu will be prosecuted for attempted murder, assembling a crowd for a brawl, and violations of the Controlling Guns, Ammunition and Knives Act.

台中市霧峰警分局分局長李建興表示：「專案小組掌握到邱嫌的逃逸車輛之後，立即向地檢署聲請核發拘票，將犯嫌查緝到案，同時在他身上起出一支改造貝瑞塔手槍。」
台中3天內發生兩起槍擊案，其中潭子滷味攤主嫌仍在逃，引發各界質疑治安敗壞，市警局26號晚間啟動肅槍專案，局長蔡蒼柏親自坐鎮指揮，擴大執行路檢、以及對治安場所展開高強度臨檢。
台中市警察局長蔡蒼柏說：「檢肅非法槍械，第二個就是查察鑄造改造槍枝的處所。第三個就追緝在逃的槍擊嫌犯。」
警方表示總共查獲2件毒品案、16名通緝犯、14名涉犯公共危險罪，肅槍專案將會持續一週。至於大里槍擊案的邱姓主嫌則依刑法殺人未遂、違反槍砲彈藥刀械管制條例、聚眾鬥毆罪，移送台中地方檢察署偵辦。
