1.4m "customized" BNT vaccines waiting for shipment: Gou

Presenter: Foxconn founder Terry Gou said about 1.4 million Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines labeled for Taiwan are waiting to be shipped. They will arrive in three batches, with the first 550,000 doses expected to arrive on Sept. 30.
Foxconn's YongLin Foundation, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), and the Tzu Chi Foundation together purchased 15 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for Taiwan. The first batch of 933,000 shots arrived on Sep. 2. Foxconn founder Terry Gou further announced in a Facebook post on Monday, Sept. 27 that 1.4 million more BioNTech doses have been produced and labeled according to Taiwan's requirements and these will arrive in three waves.
Amanda Liu, CEO, YongLin Charity and Education Foundation:”Due to few available flights and a backlog of orders in the factory warehouse, the flight was delayed by a week. The first 550,000 doses should arrive on Sept. 30. There are a total of 1.4 million doses waiting to be shipped to Taiwan from Europe.”
Gou said that the first batch was originally scheduled to arrive right after the Mid-Autumn Festival. However, due to Luxair flights being fully booked and a backlog of orders in the factory warehouse, the flight was delayed by a week. Currently, 52.12 percent of people in Taiwan have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. What is the next step in Taiwan's fight against COVID-19? The Central Epidemic Command Center said it will continue to work towards clearing COVID-19 in Taiwan.
Huang Li-min, Honorary Chair, Infectious Diseases Society of Taiwan:”There are still one or two confirmed cases with an unknown source of infection every once in a while these days. This means that our communities are still not completely free from COVID-19. The COVID virus is an ever-evolving threat and it becomes extremely hard to kill once humans contract the coronavirus because of our community-based lifestyle.”
Shen Cheng-nan, Psychiatrist, Tsoutun Psychiatric Center, MOHW:”We have to wait for the Delta wave to subside in the rest of the world before we can relax our own pandemic prevention efforts.”
Shen emphasized that border control is key against the invasion of the Delta variant. It is the first shield of defense. He also said wearing masks are likely to be a way of life even after the disease prevention measures are over as it helps protect the person who wears it and reduces the risk for the whole community.
