11,000 bags of coffee powders mixed with drugs was found in a residential building in Chiayi and the main suspects were arrested by the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office and the Chiayi Police Department. Authorities are now expanding their investigation efforts due to concerns that the drugs may have made its way into schools.
The police are loading boxes of contraband drugs onto the cars. These 11,000 bags of coffee powder mixed with drugs were found in a house in Chiayi by the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office and the Chiayi Police Department. The drugs are worth NT$50 million with a total weight over 1,000 kilograms.
This is the by far the most massive amount of drugs we've seen in Chiayi in recent years. The suspect surnamed Lai seems to be the wholesaler of the coffee powder. He runs both the production and the selling of the drug.
Other than the contraband coffee bags, the police had also found powders with fruity aromas at the crime scene that they thought the suspects were using to add into the drug. The police are now investigating the source and the whereabouts of these drugs.
In the past, it was mostly 3-in-1 coffee or other common food additives. But this time, we found that most of the raw material are fruit additives.
The Chiayi District Prosecutor's Office found that the suspect had rented the house in Chiayi since April of this year in order to make the drugs by adding commonly seen Class 3 drugs into fruit juice powders. The police will reinforce the crackdown on drugs during the summer vacation period. They also urge teenagers to be mindful of what they drink and said that they should refuse to take drinks from unidentified sources.
