Fish Farmers in Mailiao Filing Compensation Claims|麥寮六輕三廠氣爆鄉公所受理賠償申報

The explosion at a Formosa Petrochemical Corporation plant in the group's No. 6 Naphtha Cracker Complex in Mailiao, caused pipeline insulation foam to rain down on nearby fish ponds. As a result, many farmers have reported dead milkfish and clams along with other damage. On Apr. 17, the Mailiao Township Office began accepting assistance and compensation claims from farms and fisheries. It will send the applications to Formosa Petrochemical for review and approval.

A local fish farmer arrives at the Mailiao Township Office with compensation claim in hand. Local farmers say insulation foam rained down on their fish ponds after the explosion at Formosa Petrochemical's No. 6 Naphtha Cracker Complex on Apr. 7. The following day, the ponds were filled with dead fish. Farmers are worried their ponds are contaminated and their losses will keep piling up.

They were dead the next day. (How bad was it?) The dead fish were all floating on the surface of the water.

We are worried about contamination. Anything drifting down tends to get absorbed by the water. This is what farmers are most afraid of.

The township office says the explosion caused the most damage to fish farms but it doesn't know yet how widespread the damage is. Officials from Formosa Petrochemical and the township will meet with civic representatives to discuss compensation standards in coming days.

Formosa Plastics Chair Jason Lin has promised to meet with our local officials and representatives to discuss compensation standards on Apr. 23. We will meet to discuss how much compensation is needed.

Farmers can submit compensation claims to the township office from the 17th to the 26th. The office will remain open on weekends until then. It hopes Formosa Petrochemical can handle the claims quickly and generously so that affected farmers can be compensated as soon as possible.

帶齊文件住雲林麥寮養殖戶，一早就來到麥寮鄉公所，申報這次受到六輕氣爆的農漁業損失情況，有在地養殖戶表示，7號六輕台化發生氣爆後，有很多泡棉飛落到魚塭，隔一天就出現魚隻死亡，現在最怕是魚塭受汙染，損失恐怕會持續增加。

雲林麥寮養殖戶表示：「隔天就有死亡了，（死的狀況如何？) 死亡就都浮了上來。」

雲林麥寮養殖戶表示：「現在就是怕汙染嚴重，因為這飛落下去東西，都會被地上吸進去，我們放養就怕這樣。」

麥寮鄉公所表示，經了解這次受氣爆影響造成損失，以漁產養殖占最多數，但受損的面積需等申報後才能知道，至於賠償認定與金額，還需要由六輕與公所、地方民代開會研討再公布。

麥寮鄉長蔡長昆表示：「金額部分林健男董事長承諾，禮拜二(4/23)再下來跟我們地方、所有的村長代表，還有鄉公所和一級主管，大家來檢討這個要賠償多少錢。」

麥寮鄉公所表示，氣爆後的農畜牧漁業養殖救助賠償申報，從17號開始受理到26號截止，這期間碰上假日沒休息，會開放給農漁民申報，但後續災損認定鄉公所希望台塑企業能從寬、從速辦理，才能讓受損農漁民盡速領到救助賠償。
