16 years ago, the Taitung Train Station was moved out of downtown Taitung as part of the city's urban development plan, but almost two decades later, the neighborhood around the new location is still rather underdevleoped. As the train station is now undergoing renovation, local residents hope something can be done too to spur development.
3 years ago, the Puyuma train first entered the Taitung station, so that Taitung rail transit took a big step forward. The number of passengers is now an average of over 8,000 people a day. However, the development around Taitung station has been slow, only the car rental industry and hostels flourish, there are few shops and restaurants and many visitors taking the train to Taitung, feel the station is a little desolate.

There's nothing much here to go with the train station. Not that many restaurants to eat at.

There is nothing here, no restaurants, no shops, nothing.
16 years ago, the Taiwan Railway Administration and Taitung County government discussed the relocation of Taitung Railway Station, to let the old Taitung City urban area expand, so it was moved to the outskirts of Taitung at Yanwanli. However, 16 years later, the land surrounding Taitung Station has become a city planning area, bought and sold by construction companies and financial consortiums to develop into a commercial area, but this still depends on the market mechanism.

There are few commercial facilities there, and that is to some extend the result of supply and demand. There are not enough visitors.

There seem to be plans for a food court to be built near the station, but I don't think it would only make limited difference.
Taitung Railway Station is now undergoing renovation, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. People look forward to the government playing a motivating role, so that the development around Taitung Railway Station is not so sparse.
