Redefining the word voluntary, the United Airlines on Sunday forcibly pulled a man off a flight bound for Louisville, Kentucky, after he refused to voluntarily leave the plane when the airlines tried to clear 4 seats to accommodate crew members needed in Louisville the next day. Soon after footage taken by other passengers went viral, a global uproar ensued. 3 strong security officers forcibly dragged the Asian American from his seat as the man yelled and screamed all the way. The other passengers on board took the video and voiced their protest against the security officers. ==PASSENGERS== Oh my god. Look at what you did to him. Later on, the Asian American's wife walked to the gate, but the man got loose, returned to the plane and kept murmuring. ==FORCIBLY REMOVED PASSENGER== I have to go home. I have to go home. He kept talking to himself later on when he stayed at the rear part of the plane. ==FORCIBLY REMOVED PASSENGER== Just kill me. Just kill me. Kill me. The plane in question was United Airlines' Flight 3411, which was scheduled to depart from Chicago to Louisville. United Airlines was quoted as saying that it decided at the last minute to fly four staff members to Louisville and needed to bump four passengers to make way for them. The man, who claimed he was a doctor and had to see his patients at the hospital, was randomly selected and refused to get off the plane. The other passengers took the video along the way. According to airlines regulations and practices, airlines are allowed to sell more tickets than there are seats on the plane, especially during the tourist season or adverse weather conditions. That's why overbooking on flights happens all the time. Last year in the US, there were 474,000 overbooked seats, with around 430,000 people voluntarily receiving reimbursements or taking another flight. Around 40,000 were asked to leave the plane and among them, 3,765 cases were reported in United Airlines, which was much lower than the 15,000 reported in Southwest Airlines. The incident saw one of the security officers being suspended and because the man dragged off the plane was Asian American, it drew criticism for racism. In response, the US Department of Transportation said it will review whether United Airlines complied with overbooking regulations.
