FIGHTING RENEWED IN EAST UKRAINE, CIVILIANS KILLED|烏克蘭東部戰火再起 UN籲雙方遵守和平協議

Armed conflict has resumed in Ukraine after more than two years of calm. Strong shelling hit both government- and rebel-controlled areas of eastern Ukraine in a continued escalation of fighting, killing 20 people and leaving 20,000 without water and electricity. The United Nations has called on both sides to end the fighting in accordance with a previous ceasefire agreement. Apartment windows shatter under gunfire, and roads are fractured by bombs. Civilian residences are destroyed. The town of Avdiivka, in the now-autonomous region of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, has become the site of renewed violence between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russia rebels. Water and electricity have been cut off, and most areas have lost access to heat. Over 20,000 residents are left with nothing to cope with winter temperatures of minus 22 degrees Celsius. Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko has called on the international community to pressure Russia into stopping the fighting, but Russian president Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of provoking the rebels to beg for economic aid from the US and EU. ==VLADIMIR PUTIN Russian Preisdent== The Ukrainian government needs money.
