CONTRACTOR DEFRAUDS DISABLED WORKER WITH FALSE FINES|台塑包商涉詐智障員工 逼簽81萬本票

A contractor of the Formosa Petrochemical Corporation in Yunlin has been accused of defrauding a disabled employee surnamed Shen. According to reports, the company falsely claimed that it had been fined 810 thousand nt dollars by Formosa, after Shen was caught smoking and violating other work codes. The company then forced Shen to pay the fine in monthly installments, putting him deep in debt. The Labor Affairs Department of Yunlin County is now investigating the case as one of fraud. The 35-year-old Mr. Shen has moderate learning disability. Two years ago he was hired as a temporary cleaner and dispatched to the Formosa Petrochemical Corporation in Yunlin's Mailiao. After working for a month, the employer told Mr. Shen that he had violated the corporation's codes and he is responsible to pay for his own fines. ==Mr. Shen's Mother== Because the employer said that you'll have to pay the penalty or their company will be affected. (How much money did you pay to the employer?) Now the total is NT$260,000 for an 18 month installation. (Where did you get the money from?) From my government subsidy. Shen's mother said, the employer told her because her son had violated the corporation's codes by bringing mobile phone, cigarettes and others. Those had caused the employer NT$810,000. The employer further demanded Mrs. Shen to pay 3 cashier's checks at NT$270,000 each. The county authority had pointed out the employer is breaking relevant labor laws. ==HSU MU-SHENG, Yunlin County Labor Affairs Dept. Dir.== Every company is required to hire labors with disabilities by certain ratio. If those labors with disability had their rights infringed, we will take action according to the Labor Standards Act. The employer is not everything. Mrs. Shen had paid up for 18 months, and her friends found out that may be a fraud committed by the employer. The Formosa Petrochemical Corporation had stated that Shen had no violation record. The police are under investigation for a possible fraud case.
