MOE RELAXES HIGH SCHOOL UNIFORM, STUDENTS UNIMPRESSED|教育部宣布 高中職服儀解禁 可混搭穿著

The Ministry of Education announced on Aug. 18 that it has relaxed regulations on high school dress codes. Students can now mix and match their school uniforms with sports uniform and other types of uniform approved by the school, such as class uniform or student club uniform. Schools will not be allowed to punish students for violation of uniform regulations. The new policy will apply to both public and private high schools. Wearing a mix of sports uniform and school uniform used to be forbidden in schools. The MOE has announced a new policy allowing students to mix their uniforms, whether from sports, class or student clubs. ==TSAI CHING-HWA, MOE Deputy Minister== Schools cannot punish students for violation of dress codes. They can, however, try to counsel and advise students appropriately. The MOE stressed that high school dress codes can be less strict than the MOE regulations. However, schools can still require students to wear non-mixed school uniform on certain occasions such as celebration events. Students can also put on extra warm clothing when the weather is cold, but they will not be allowed to go barefoot or wear slippers. While the MOE has relaxed its regulations, students still have their concerns. ==TSAI, Taipei First Girls' High School== The school can still punish us by asking us to clean, sit cross-legged on the floor or stand with our faces to the wall. If we ignore the uniform three times they can give us a written warning. So I don't think the new policy is significantly different from before. It's a rationalization the regulation, but they can still punish us. We're still concerned about it. The new regulations will apply to both academic and vocational high schools, and both public and private high schools. In Taichung City, some private schools are not happy that the MOE made the announcement without consulting local schools. The student advocate group "Free Your Uniform" said the new policy is not satisfactory but acceptable, and they will continue to fight for complete elimination of high school uniform regulations. According to the MOE regulations, schools may not implement uniform regulations unless a decision is reached by the school's uniform committee.
