HIKER FALLS TO DEATH IN TAROKO NATIONAL PARK|攀登錐麓古道又傳山難 兩個月內連兩起

A fatal incident at the Taroko National Park was reported on jUNE 16th. A Sixty-six-year-old man fell to his death while hiking with his son. Due to the mountainous terrain, his body was transported back to the city by helicopter on the morning of June 16. It was the second fatality in this area since April of this year. Hualien County Fire Department rushed to rescue a hiker who had fallen into the valley on the Zhuilu Old Road at the Taroko National Park. However, the helicopter was unable to land at the site due to surrounding steep mountains and cliffs. ==CHUANG CHING-SHAN, Rescue Worker, Hualien County Fire Department== If the terrain allows, the helicopter would be able to transport the body. However, the helicopter was blocked by the cliffs. We had to go down there to recover the body. The incident occurred in the morning on the 16th. A pair of father and son were hiking along the Zhuilu Old Road when the father fell into the valley. ==Police Officer=== The road is about one meter wide. Iron chains are installed along the road. (So you should walk with your back to the cliff?) You should have your back against the mountain while holding on to the chains.(Take one step at a time?) Yes It was the second fatal incident in the past two months on the Zhuilu Old Road. Thus we urge people who want to take the Zhuilu Old Road to be careful and use the safety gear we provide to ensure their own safety. The family of the deceased indicated that Li was an experienced hiker and was in good health condition. The case is pending further police investigation. TRANSLATED BY：CHRISTINA LIU 太魯閣國家公園錐麓古道，16號發生一起墜崖意外，一名66歲的李老先生和兒子登山，不知道什麼原因竟然墜谷身亡，由於山谷險峻，救難隊員17號上午靠直升機才順利將大體載運到平地，而這已是錐麓古道連續兩個月來，發生的第二起墜谷意外。 一聽說有登山客在太魯閣國家公園錐麓古道墜崖，花蓮縣消防局立刻出動救難隊員上山搶救，無奈發生墜谷的地點，是好幾百公尺高的山谷，且兩旁都是峭壁，直升機無法直接降落搜救。 ==花蓮縣消防局搜救人員 莊青山== 因為地點允許的話 昨天直升機是可以吊掛啦 可是那個離山壁太近了啦 直升機沒辦法靠近啦 就只能讓我們下去 把那個大體處置好這樣 這起墜谷意外是發生在16號上午，一對來自台北市的李姓父子，在攀登錐麓古道時，不知道什麼原因父親竟然墜谷。 ==警方=== 路多寬喔 差不多 一公尺的寬度啦 可是它旁邊都有用鐵鍊 （所以走那段是不是） （要背對著懸崖） 應該是靠著山壁抓著鐵鍊 （這樣子一步一步的）對 由於這已經是錐麓古道連續兩個月來，第二起墜谷山難，太管處提醒登山客，錐麓古道雖然相當美麗，但也相對的非常危險。 ==太魯閣國家公園管理處副處長 張登文=== 四月六月各發生一起不幸的事故 所以我們太管處在此呼籲遊客 到錐麓古道尤其到斷崖段的時候 管理處所設的繩索護欄安全措施 要再確保在使用 以保障維護自身的安全 而死者家屬則是表示，李老先生登山經驗豐富，身體也沒有不適，至於為何會突然發生意外，還待警方進一步調查。 記者 溫嘉楷 花蓮報導
