Typhoon Kong-rey is the 25th moderate typhoon of this year's typhoon season. It is currently increasing in strength. The Central Weather Bureau predicts Typhoon Kong-rey to be the closest to Taiwan on Oct. 4 and 5, and may even get closer than Typhoon Trami. It is not ruling out the possibility of issuing a sea warning.
Typhoon Kong-rey is currently moving at a speed of 16 kilometers per hour in a northwesterly direction, and it may develop into a strong typhoon. Its overall circumstances are similar to those of Typhoon Trami, and it may follow a similar path. The Central Weather Bureau says Typhoon Kong-rey may approach closer to Taiwan than Typhoon Trami did. The typhoon will be closest to Taiwan on Oct. 4 and 5. However, different countries have forecasted different paths for the typhoon, and the path will depend on the intensity of Pacific high-pressure systems. The Central Weather Bureau reminds the public that northern and eastern Taiwan, including Green Island, Orchid Island and the Hengchun Peninsula, will begin feeling the effects of the typhoon on Oct. 3, such as powerful waves. The public is advised from traveling to coastal areas.
