Taiwan Tourists in Hokkaido Safe Following Earthquake|北海道6.7震.陸空停擺 25台團報平安

A powerful magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit the Japanese island of Hokkaido at around 2 a.m. Taiwan time on Sept. 6. Landslides occurred near the epicenter, and 2.95 million households experienced power failure. All transportation services were subsequently suspended. The Tourism Bureau estimates there are around 700 Taiwan tourists currently in Hokkaido, and all of them are safe.

Tourists wait at a meeting point. A powerful magnitude 6.7 earthquake shook the Japanese island of Hokkaido during the early hours of Sept. 6. New Chitose Airport was subsequently closed. The earthquake affected the plans of many tourists, who were caught by surprise.

We came up from Tainan, and we only heard the news while we were on the bus. (So what time did you leave home today?) We got on the bus at 1 a.m.

Meanwhile, Taiwan tourists already in Hokkaido had to remain there due to the closure of the airport. Several tourists in Sapporo compared the earthquake to Taiwan's 921 earthquake. They said there were numerous aftershocks, and everyone was using LINE to reassure others they were safe. SET Tour has four tour groups in Hokkaido at present, and all of the tourists are safe. The first group traveled to Hakodate by bus, and then took a flight back to Taipei.

Around four hours. (The bus ride was four hours long?) That's right. It had to take regular roads because the highways were closed, so the travel time was prolonged.

We need to communicate with airlines and see what planes they can dispatch. Perhaps the tourists can go to the two other airports and return to Taiwan this way.

The Tourism Bureau estimates there are 764 tourists in 25 tour groups in Hokkaido whose return to Taiwan was affected by the earthquake. All the tourists are safe. Under standard tourism contracts, travel agencies that cancel tours due to a force majeure event are required to refund the full amount of the travel fee minus any necessary fees.
