North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Do Jong-hwa take their seats. Over 100 South Korean dancers, musicians and martial artists took part in a historic performance in Pyongyang on Apr. 1.

Seohyun from girl group Girls' Generation emceed the show, which featured performances by 11 acts including singer Cho Yong-pil.

Cho held a solo concert in Pyongyang in 2005, which was the last time a South Korean artist performed in North Korea. Titled "Spring is Coming" in reference to thawing relations between the two Koreas, one of the final performances of the night was a group rendition of a unification song.

The 120 performers will take part in a joint performance with North Korean artists on the 3rd. Cultural exchange has long been at the root of improving relations between the two Koreas. In 2000, North Korea's State Symphony Orchestra and South Korea's KBS Symphony Orchestra performed together in Seoul. In other news, South Korea's annual military exercise with the U.S. also opened on the 1st. With a two-Korea summit scheduled for the 27th and Kim set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump next month, the length of the exercise was cut in half although the scale remained unchanged.
