Since 2003, Taiwan has banned all imports of beef and cattle products from Japan, Sweden and the Netherlands, but the Food and Drug Administration announced yesterday that the ban on beef products from these three countries could be lifted as soon as mid-September. The Ministry of Health and Welfare says it had conducted a series of assessments in these three countries before it began to consider lifting the ban, and the FDA says it will still impose certain restrictions on beef imports. Only beef from cattle under 12 months of age is to be accepted from the Netherlands. As for Japan and Sweden, the threshold is set at 30 months of age.
