National Taiwan University joined up to establish an AI unmanned vehicle research team to advance the necessary technology. On May 26, the first Level 4 unmanned bus in Taiwan was unveiled to the public. In July it will carry passengers around the NTU campus.
The first Level 4 unmanned bus in Taiwan was unveiled to the public. This was created through cooperation between NTU's Colleges of Engineering and Electrical Engineering and industry, researching self-driving software combined with unmanned vehicle hardware systems. This unmanned bus will start to carry passengers around the NTU's Shuiyuan campus in July.

All the students and staff can use this unmanned bus around the campus to see what it would be like in the future with driverless vehicles and the extent to which they can be useful.
This small bus can carry 12 passengers and has disabled access. Its driving functions include 3D memory maps for route planning, and it can automatically detect and bypass obstacles. It can detect and avoid colliding with oncoming vehicles at intersections.
It's motion detector mainly relies on this two channel 16 line 3D radar, plus four channel radar and its GPS.
It does not need tracks and can adjust to any parking situation, thus is suitable for short distances. Many counties and cities are eager to try it. Changhua wanted to use it as a shuttle between the high-speed rail station and the rail station. However, currently, unmanned vehicles do not have license plates, and are restricted by laws and regulations. They can only be in closed areas. The industry plans that after the July campus trial operation, it will visit counties and cities to choose a suitable area for it to operate in, so the public can try it out.
