2 MORE OUTBREAKS OF TIPALIA LAKE VIRUS IN TAOYUAN FISH FARMS|吳郭魚疑染"湖泊病毒" 觀音魚場管制

The Council of Agriculture has confirmed another two outbreaks of tilapia lake virus within a three-kilometer radius of the first infected farm in Guanyin District, Taoyuan. The COA conducted relevant measures accordingly. On the afternoon of June 17, the COA and experts went to the scene to conduct an investigation. So far, there are six infected fish farms, all located in Taoyuan, and the samples have been collected for further investigation. Feeding bread to tilapia is routinely carried out at a fish farm in Guanyin District, Taoyuan, following the tilapia lake virus outbreak confirmed on June 16. The farm owner said he has followed relevant regulations and the fish in question should be free from the virus. ==TILAPIA FARM OWNER== It takes seven to ten days for the virus to develop. If the virus spreads, many farms will suffer from it. There will be a large number of dead fish, which is not seen for the time being. The farm owner said there is no sight of large numbers of dead fish above the water or near the outlet for water and that the farm will follow the government's regulations. The COA, however, did not take it lightly and conducted an investigation with experts on the afternoon of June 17. ==HUANG CHIN-CHENG COA Vice Minister== This morning, we have confirmed that another three farms are also infected with the virus in the neighborhood. The source of the tilapia fish fry came from southern Taiwan and among those fish farms which were tested, more than 10 tested negative for the virus. ==CHEN MEEI-MEI Assoc. Once the fish is confirmed to be free of the virus, we will still observe the situation for a period of time. The COA said on June 17 another three farms were confirmed to have been infected with the virus, bringing the total number to six, which are all located in Guanyin District, Taoyuan. In response, a full inspection will be conducted in the hopes of identifying the cause, the COA said, emphasizing dead fish are less likely to enter the market because they will be rotten after they die. It also reassures the public about purchasing tilapia, as the virus will not pass on to people.
