TORRENTIAL RAIN HITS CENTRAL TAIWAN, 200 TOURISTS STRANDED|南投暴雨鐵皮屋掉河床 苗栗2百人滯溫泉區

A stationary front has brought torrential rains to central Taiwan. In Nantou's Shenmu Village, a metal shack was washed into the river. Provincial Highway 21 has turned into a river. Also, in Nantou's Ren-ai Township, 200 residents were trapped. The train service in Jiji was suspended as a result. Four roads collapsed in Miaoli Route 62, and over 200 tourists in the hot spring area were stranded. After days of torrential rain, a metal shack in Shenmu Village of Nantou Sinyi Township finally fell into the river. Provincial Highway 21 was flooded, the aerial view showed a river rather than a road. Nearly 200 residents in Nantou Ren-ai Township suffered from road termination, but township officers said, they have already reserved a week-long food supply. ==TSAI CHIN-TANG Director, TaiPower Nantou Distribution and Service Division== Approximately 3,000 households have lost power in Nantou District. The cause of the power outage was several big trees fell down and broke our poles and lines. Torrential rains also caused the eighth-kilometer point of Miaoli County Road 62 terminated. Although the section had been maintained for three times, the progress had been hampered by heavy rain. ==ENGINEER== I should say, a single lane traffic flow has no problem at all. But we are not sure for the time from evening till tomorrow. If it collapsed again in the evening, then we will do our best for opening a single-lane. Township officers had already transported 200 tourists and 800 residents by shuttles to the plain area. ==CHEN CHIN-TA Secretary, Miaoli Taian Township Office== We will first maintain the old route. As to the new line, because two sides keep on collapsing, therefore we blocked its two lanes. Yes, just like last time we ran to the police station at uphill. From Nantou to Miaoli, torrential rains have caused disasters and road terminations. Many districts had taken precautionary evacuations and avoided possible fatalities. TRANSLATED BY: ANTHONY LIN 滯留鋒面從昨天深夜，到今天早上，為中台灣帶來豪大雨。在南投神木村愛子玉溪邊坡上一棟兩層樓鐵皮屋，地基被淘空，掉入河床，瞬間遭大水沖毀。而在信義鄉的、台21線，還變成溪流，仁愛鄉、則有兩百人受困，就連集集、支線小火車，也一度停駛。另外，在苗栗、苗62線的部分，有四處道路坍方，溫泉區裡，有200多位遊客滯留未歸，要等待道路搶通。 南投信義鄉神木村6鄰的鐵皮屋，抵不過大雨及愛玉子溪大水掏空，應聲墜落溪床。台二十一線成了汪洋一片,民眾空拍畫面中，馬路已經變成了小河。 另外在南投仁愛鄉力行產業道路146公里，對外交通完全中斷，將近200人受困，不過公所方面表示，已經預先準一個禮拜食物存糧。而在南投縣，3號早上已有近4千戶停電。 ==台電南投營運處長 蔡欽堂== 南投區處現在 大概有最高到3800多戶停電 今天這個狀況 好幾噸的大樹倒下來 壓斷我們的電桿電線 大雨對苗栗山區一樣造成衝擊，苗62線8公里處，錦卦大橋往泰安溫泉區方向，四處坍方修了三次，但雨下不停，搶通進度受阻。 ==工程人員== 應該講說 單線通車沒問題啦 但是晚上到明天 我們就不曉得了 晚上假如還坍下來 明天早上就是盡量 再讓它可以維持單線通車啊 鄉公所人員已經協助溫泉區200位遊客和800位居民，利用小型車接駁走舊線，陸續下山。 ==苗栗泰安鄉公所秘書 陳進達== 舊線的部分的話 我們會先搶通 新線的部分的話 因為兩側還繼續再崩 目前來講我們兩側是封鎖 那但是不影響溫泉區的遊客進出 ==苗栗泰安鄉民== （雨再大的話會不會想要出去) 有喔 像上次我們 跑到派出所上面去了 從南投到苗栗，大雨已經造成災情及道路中斷，幸好已經預防性撤離，把災害損傷，降到最低。 黃千容 林健生 綜合報導
