BALLOON IN HIGH VOLTAGE CABLES DISRUPTS HIGH SPEED RAIL|廣告氣球纏繞電車線 高鐵20班次延誤

A big red balloon disrupted the high-speed rail's operation at around 7:56 yesterday morning which affected at least 12,000 commuters. The balloon became tangled in the high voltage cable lines at 137.1km milestone of the high speed rail route, and the system resumed normal operations at around 9:38 am. The overhead line near THSR's Miaoli-Taichung railway got all tangled up by a giant advertising balloon. The incident took place at 7:58 am. In response, the THSR immediately cut off power to the tracks and allowed one lane operation for both directions instead. Many passengers were affected and the station was swarming with the crowd. ==HSR ANNOUNCEMENT== Due to an entanglement in the overhead cables, the train was delayed. THSR's Taichung Station immediately sent workers to the scene, where they climbed up the overhead line. At 9:35 am, the workers got rid of the balloon and two-way operation resumed at 9:38 am. It wasn't the first time that a balloon has become tangled in overhead cables. The THSR said it will report the case to the police and would seek compensation from the owner of the balloon. Passengers can apply for full refund within a year if they did not use the tickets as a result of the incident. Passengers who were delayed for more than 30 minutes can apply for 10% refund of the ticket price at every THSR station.
