The World Health Organization has declared an Ebola outbreak in Congo, which is the eighth outbreak in the country. Of the nine people suspected to have contracted the deadly virus, three died, with one confirmed case. The last outbreak of Ebola in Congo was in 2014 and killed more than 40 people. The World Health Organization (W.H.O.) on May 12 declared Democratic Republic of Congo the ebola epidemic area. Nine people in northern Bas-Uele Province are affected with a hemorrhagic fever, and three died at later times. One was confirmed with ebola virus affection. ==OLY ILUNGA Minister of Health, Democratic Rep. of Congo== We were informed this morning of the Ebola epidemic in the province of Bas-Uele. This affects us, because our agents are on the ground and we need to ensure they are not affected by this epidemic. We need to be attentive to this question. Ebola virus was first detected in Congo's tropical forest in 1976, and named after the nearby river Ebola. Congo's last ebola outbreak was in 2014, more than 40 people died. This is Congo's eighth ebola outbreak. Between 2014 to 2015, ebola virus killed more than 11,000 people in Western Africa's Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia. WHO has confirmed the outbreak an international health crisis and dispatched medical experts to the remote Bas-Uele Province. The newest vaccine may be used for this outbreak.
