CHINA NAVAL FLEET SAIL ALONG TAIWAN EASTERN WATERS ON WAY TO PHILIPPINES|漢光兵推之際 中艦隊航經台灣東部海域

Last month, China sent three naval vessels across the Miyako Strait and eastern waters off Taiwan on its way to visit the Philippines. Since the military event came at a close time with this year's Han Kuang military exercises held at May 1, many have kept a close an eye on China. Experts believe that China is gaining increasing awareness over its leverage on the U.S. regarding issues in the South and East China Sea, and it will likely act on such realization. The Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy has again sent a naval fleet through Japan's Miyako Strait, rattling nerves in the Asia-Pacific region. ==CCTV REPORT== The fleet arrived in in Davao City, Philippines on Apr.30. President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, along with Philippine military officials, visited the guided-missile destroyer Changchun. The fleet, which consisted of three naval vessels, guided-missile destroyer Changchun, guided-missile frigate Jinzhou and replenishment ship Chaohu, left Shanghai on Apr.23 and passed through the Miyako Strait on Apr.24. Sailing along the eastern waters off Taiwan, it finally arrived in the Philippines on Apr.30. On May.1, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense held this year's Han Kuang military exercises. Since both events come at a close time, many people were worried. The ministry, reassuring the public, said that it has kept an eye on the PLA. According to experts, China knows that the U.S wants its help in dealing with North Korea, with this bargaining chip, it is now testing the limits of America and its allies in the region. ==HU JUI-CHOU Deputy Director of TCSS,NCCU== The U.S. needs Beijing's power to deal with North Korea. Japan has to consider its role and China's role in the Asia-Pacific region as both put an emphasis on their fishing rights and interests around the waters of Diaoyutai Islands. The ASEAN Summit, which was held from Apr.26 to Apr.29 in Manila this year, failed to mention China's expansion of arms in the South China Sea. Some think that this means that President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines is offering an olive branch to China. The president even visited the Chinese warships docked in his hometown on May.1, showing that China has worked hard to improve the relations with countries around the South China Sea. ==HU JUI-CHOU Deputy director of TCSS,NCCU== The Philippines returns China a favor. Recently, it is reported that the Trump administration is going to invite President Rodrigo Duterte to the White House. Trump hopes to draw Duterte closer. As tensions on the Korean Peninsula rise, China is aware that it is gaining increasing leverage over the U.S. on issues in the South and East China Sea, and it will likely act on such realization.
