More and more properties are being passed down by parents to their children. According to the government's latest statistics, the number of inherited properties in the first quarter of this year was more than 12 thousand, a 60 percent increase compared to ten years ago.
In Taichung, new buildings are going up all over the place and there are adverts for old apartments everywhere too. In Taichung City, most property costs over NT$10 million. Young people can't afford to buy property, but many parents help their children to buy.

We don't know what things will be like in the future, now if we can, we will help them.
Statistics on inherited property from the Ministry of the Interior show that compared to a decade ago, there is now a sixty percent increase in inherited properties, with 51,800 in 2016. Another trend is that parents who can afford to, start to buy property for their children, to get them on the housing ladder earlier. Young people find it increasingly difficult to buy property and the figures point to an economic gap.
==YOUNG WORKER==
To wait to inherit property is a bit difficult, and property prices are not going to go down, this is a typical wealth gap. Young people can't buy property and have to rely on their parents, if young people buy a property, they have to be prepared to work hard for it.
MOI statistics show that in March, nationally, there were inherited 5,136 properties. This is the highest figure ever. In the first quarter of the year, there were 12,500 inherited properties, the most ever. Real estate agents point out that this is a result of the ageing population.
== CHANG CHI-CHENG Chair, ROC Real Estate Exhibition Exchange Association==
If there is property then someone will inherit it. The inheritance ratio is higher, because the population is aging. This wave is a demographic fact. Inheritance is definitely not a factor impacting real estate changing hands.
Real estate agents believe that the inherited property statistics just reflect Taiwan's demographics as an ageing society. They also feel that this does not affect the property market much and the concept of 'housing justice' is more noteworthy.
